More than a flag.A lifeline of support.
Canteen Aotearoa is the only national charity dedicated to supporting rangatahi aged 12-24 impacted by cancer, whether through their own diagnosis, cancer in their whānau, or grief and loss.
Cancer is challenging at any age, but for rangatahi it can present unique difficulties during critical developmental years. Challenges like isolation, emotional distress, and interrupted learning can have long-lasting impacts.
Canteen provides free, evidence-based psychosocial support services that help rangatahi navigate these challenges and build their long-term emotional and social wellbeing. These services include counselling, peer events, therapeutic programmes, camps, leadership skills, development grants, and career guidance.
Canteen receives no direct government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of the community to help fund their vital support services.
“The connection with other rangatahi who had been through similar experiences brought a huge sense of relief and validation. I wasn’t the only one. I wasn’t alone. I could empathise with them and know exactly how they felt.”
Every year in Aotearoa
More than 4,200 rangatahi are impacted by cancer.
Every day, 10 rangatahi have a parent diagnosed with cancer.
Every day, one rangatahi has a sibling diagnosed with cancer.
Every second day, one rangatahi is diagnosed with cancer.
And Canteen's impact
More than 700 rangatahi received free support through Canteen in 24/25.
There was a 55% decrease in the number of rangatahi at high risk of developing mental health challenges, such as anxiety and depression, after receiving support in 24/25.
98% of rangatahi were mostly or very satisfied with our services in 24/25.
Why the E Blacks carry it
Your wordsgo withthe team.
When the E Blacks travel to the Global Esports Games in Los Angeles, run by the Global Esports Federation, the flag travels with them. Every claimed block records who stood with rangatahi impacted by cancer, and who sent strength from Aotearoa.
The support messages will be there in the team environment, on the road, and at the world stage. They help the players remember who they are playing for, why the campaign matters beyond the scoreboard, and how many people are behind them.
Every claimed block becomes part of the flag they carry out and the story they bring home.
Questions
What exactly am I buying?
One or more blocks of ten pixels on the physical flag the E Blacks carry to the Global Esports Games in Los Angeles this December, run by the Global Esports Federation. Your spot is allocated after payment, and your message appears after admin review. All proceeds are donated to Canteen Aotearoa.
What can I write?
Up to 50 characters. Messages in Te Reo Māori are accepted and welcomed. Messages are reviewed by admins before they appear, so please refrain from using links, advertising, profanity or offensive terms. No refunds are provided for offensive submissions.
Can I stay anonymous?
Yes. Leave “From” empty and no name appears anywhere on screen or on the flag. Stripe still captures private payment contact details so admins can recover purchases, review refunds, or send an edit link if content needs changes.
What happens to the flag afterwards?
It comes home with the team. We'll share where it lands, and every message stays part of it.
Can I choose where my blocks go?
Yes. Choose one available block or select a few. Blocks that touch become one combined area. If you choose blocks in separate parts of the flag, you can use the same message or write a different message for each area.
What if my message is rejected?
All messages and drawings go through admin review before showing up on the flag. If your submission needs a small change and isn't intended to be harmful or offensive, we will email the purchaser a secure link to update the same paid blocks without paying again.
Is this tax deductible?
No. NZ Esports collects the funds and transfers them to Canteen when the campaign closes, so your purchase isn't a donation in the tax sense and no donee receipt can be issued.
When does the campaign close?
The campaign closes on 11 October 2026 so the flag can be prepared for print before the team departs for Los Angeles in December.
